A Mountain lion was found dead at Highway 77 between Willacy and Cameron County with signs of a road rash.

This is the fourth mountain lion sighting in the Rio Grande Valley for the past 15 years making it extremely rare, experts asked residents not to expect for another one anytime soon.

“I would not be concerned about mountain lions in the Rio Grande Valley.”

said Tony Henehan, TPWD wildlife biologist.

“They are gigantic home ranges”.

He said mountain lion ranges can be 200 square miles, with usually one per territory.

While it would be extremely unusual for another one to be in the RGV Henehan said that if anyone does have an encounter with one, to keep their distance and call a Game Warden.
