Johnson & Johnson vaccines on pause over clot reports

A pause for the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine has been recommended by the CDC and FDA. 

This Tuesday, the Centers for Disease control in a joint statement with the Food and Drug Administration, have announced an ongoing investigation for clots in six women in the day after the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, in combination with reduced platelet counts. 

As of this Tuesday, more than 6.8 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine have been administered in the U.S.

Now federal distribution channels, including vaccination sites, are pausing the use of the shot, states and other providers are expected to follow as soon as possible. 

Centers for Disease Control’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices will meet Wednesday to discuss the cases and the FDA has also launched an investigation of the cases.
