This Monday a bipartisan group of lawmakers “The Problem Solvers Caucus” visited the U.S.-Mexico border.
The visit led by U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez had a tour at the border’s ports of entry and at processing centers in the Valley. The group met with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
Rep. Gonzalez was joined by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Rep. Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), Rep. Tom Suozzi (NY-03), Rep. Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), Rep. Young Kim (CA-39), Rep. Conor Lamb (PA-17), Rep. Ed Case (HI-01), Rep. Jim Costa (CA-16) and Rep. Dan Meuser (PA-09).
Now after many visits by Republicans, Democrats, and Bipartisan lawmakers, some migrants who have been in the Valley for many years before the surge of immigrants are worried that the solution for this will affect them too.
“My fear is the militarization of the border, it’s deadly for so many, and breaks the idea of this country,” a migrant who has lived in the Valley for 20 years said.
Congressman Gonzalez says he organized the tour to provide in-depth context to the increase in immigration.
