On Saturday afternoon, a disabled man and his two dogs were rescued from a house fire in McAllen.

The fire broke out near Ware Road and Lark Avenue, and McAllen Fire Department firefighters were already on the scene when the 911 call came in.

“Name it coincidence, call it whatever you want, but the closest unit was simply down the street at another alarm activation,” said Juan Gloria, McAllen Deputy Fire Chief. “I can tell you that it was unquestionably a factor in achieving a quick rescue rather than a recovery.”

The man and his two pets were unharmed, and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
