This May 1 is Election day, many Rio Grande Valley cities are having elections, and ARISE Adelante, a nonprofit is making a campaign to make sure residents know that their duty as citizens is going to the polls.
This campaign, according to ARISE Adelante wants people who haven’t vote in the last two years to participate in these upcoming elections.
Lucero Chinchurreth, a community organizer for Arise, said it’s essential to make sure people know elections are happening.
The NGO is focusing on Pharr’s elections since the city has such a low turnout.
Volunteers of ARISE are hitting the street and making sure citizens have the right information about polling locations, sample ballots, and more.
The organization says that they need to remind Pharr residents that their voice counts.
