This week, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño along with health officials, urged residents, especially younger groups to get vaccinated against COVID-19, which can also protect them against the new highly contagious variant of the virus called Delta.

Dr. James Castillo said that historical data shows that the Valley can expect to see the Delta variant cases begin to show within the next two months.

“Today is a good opportunity, as a forecast, to help take action because there’s another wave coming,” Dr. Castillo said. “And that wave is the Delta variant.”

Health officials say there’s been a slight increase in COVID-19 cases and are urging all those who haven’t been vaccinated to do so.
